01 / GUIDE

Start your SadiFI journey

Start on your desktop, build your financial picture, then connect Companion for everyday access on your phone. This guide covers the prepared release; labels and tools may differ in older installed builds.

  1. Install SadiFI. Choose your platform on Get SadiFI. A release marked “Coming soon” is not available yet.
  2. Create your account in the desktop app. Enter your name, email and password. Choose your country and interface language. Read and accept the terms presented by the app.
  3. Verify your email. Open the verification email, complete verification, then return to the app and sign in.
  4. Add your starting information. Begin with income, creditors and monthly expenses, then add goals and assets.
  5. Connect cloud sync. Follow the steps below before connecting another device.

02 / GUIDE

Country, currency & language

Your registration country determines the currency and financial region used by your account. Choose carefully: the country is not an editable preference after registration. Changing the interface language does not change your currency.

CountryAccount currency
South AfricaZAR — rand
NetherlandsEUR — euro
IndonesiaIDR — rupiah
United KingdomGBP — pound
United StatesUSD — dollar

The website highlights English, Dutch, Afrikaans, isiZulu and isiXhosa. Choose an available language in the app’s language settings. Desktop language settings are in Guide; Companion settings are under More. Some builds also include Bahasa Indonesia.

If your account shows an unexpected country or currency, contact support@sadifi.com before entering more records. Purchase currency and your financial-record currency are separate settings.

03 / GUIDE

Your financial overview

The desktop Command Center brings together your recorded income, commitments, assets and progress. Companion’s home screen gives you a compact overview with quick access to accounts, expenses, milestones, Booster and assets.

  • Income and expenses: review what comes in and what needs to be paid for the period shown.
  • Debt and assets: keep liabilities and recorded assets in view when reviewing your wider financial position.
  • Wealth Health and mascot: use the app’s status indicators as prompts to review your entries and plans.

These views depend on the data you have entered and synced. Check the selected period and whether entries are included or ignored before comparing totals. SadiFI records and calculations do not replace your bank’s current balance.

04 / GUIDE

Salary profiles & payslips

Desktop Use the Payslip Engine to organise salary profiles, calculate a payslip and keep payslip history.

  1. Select or create the salary profile you want to work with.
  2. Enter the applicable salary, allowances, deductions and other fields shown for that profile.
  3. Review the calculated amounts and the country settings before saving the payslip.
  4. Use Export to save a PDF or Word copy when needed.

Tax and payroll estimates depend on the inputs and the country module available in your build. Check results against your employer’s payslip. Profiles, payslip history and custom fields are supported sync records; Companion does not provide the full desktop payslip editor.

05 / GUIDE

Accounts, creditors & debt planning

Accounts helps you organise money you owe, creditor details and repayments.

  1. Open Accounts and add a creditor.
  2. Enter the creditor name and contact person; add phone and email where available.
  3. Enter the outstanding balance, interest rate and minimum payment. Set the payment due day.
  4. Review the automatically calculated repayment term, then save.
  5. Update the record as your actual balance and payment arrangements change.

Desktop The avalanche/snowball simulator compares repayment approaches. Avalanche prioritises higher interest rates; snowball prioritises smaller balances. Results are scenarios based on entered values, not a promise of a payoff date.

Use the row’s inclusion controls, payment actions and history where available to manage your monthly view. Recording a payment in SadiFI does not send money to the creditor.

06 / GUIDE

Expenses & payment tracking

  1. Open Expenses and add an item with a name, amount, category and date or due day.
  2. Review monthly commitments and keep amounts current.
  3. Record payments using the available payment action. Review history when checking what was recorded.
  4. Edit an item when the obligation changes, or delete it when it should no longer exist.

Ignoring an entry excludes it from supported calculations while retaining the record. Deleting removes it and propagates through sync.

Desktop Import Bank CSV can create expense entries from a statement file. File formats vary: back up first, review dates and amounts afterwards, and avoid importing the same file twice. Importing a statement does not create an ongoing bank connection.

07 / GUIDE

Budget Planner & flexible spending

Use Budget Planner to set limits for changing, day-to-day costs such as groceries, fuel, transport and dining. The budget helps you compare planned category amounts with purchases you actually record.

Keep regular commitments in their own features. Rent or bond, insurance, subscriptions and other predictable bills belong in Expenses or Accounts. They are shown separately as commitments for budget planning; do not add them again as flexible category budgets.

Set category limits on desktop

  1. Open Budget Planner. The selected budget month is shown at the top.
  2. Review Available to Plan, Allocated and Left to Assign. Available funds are based on the budget’s opening cash and income settings; recorded commitments and planned savings are accounted for separately.
  3. Add a variable category using the available category list, enter its planned limit and save it. Add limits only for flexible spending you want to track.
  4. After making a purchase, enter its date, category, optional description and amount under Record Flexible Spending.
  5. Review the category’s planned amount, actual paid, remaining amount and usage. Correct an entry if a purchase was recorded incorrectly.

Use Budget Planner in Companion

Companion opens the current budget month automatically; the month cannot be changed there. Review the available, allocated and left-to-assign totals, then open Category Budgets to add or review flexible-spending limits. Use Record Spending after a purchase and choose the matching category. The category list is shared with the desktop budget feature.

Companion focuses on category budgets and recording flexible purchases. Edit the monthly plan and other full planning controls in the desktop app. Sync after changes when you want the other device to receive them; updates do not appear on another device until it syncs.

08 / GUIDE

Milestones, goals & contributions

Create a goal for something you want to fund, set a target and record contributions as you make progress. Open the goal to review progress and its recorded allocations; adjust or remove an entry if you made a mistake.

Goal contributions track your plan. They do not transfer money into a savings account. Keep the amounts aligned with money you have actually set aside.

Goals and milestone allocations are included in cloud sync. Use the same account and sync each device to see the latest progress.

09 / GUIDE

Booster: track extra income

Use Booster for income outside your main salary, such as freelance work, a side project or another recorded income source.

  1. Open Booster and add an income record.
  2. Enter the source, amount and the other requested details.
  3. Save the entry, then review its effect in your overview.
  4. Edit or delete a record when it changes and sync your updates.

Keep salary records and extra-income records distinct so you do not count the same money twice. Booster helps you track income; it does not guarantee new earnings.

10 / GUIDE

Gold, assets & reference prices

Record supported gold holdings and other assets to include them in your financial picture. Check the quantity, units and value you enter, and review any reference price and currency shown before saving.

Live reference prices need an internet connection. Values can change and may not equal the price you could buy or sell at. Recording an asset does not execute a trade.

User asset records are synced. A market-price refresh and a cloud sync serve different purposes: one updates reference information, the other shares your records.

Calculator Kit

Open Calculator Kit and choose a tool. In the currency/layout update, money results follow your account currency and VAT is entered manually. If an older build still fixes these values, install the latest available update.

ToolHow to use it
General calculatorEnter your calculation and review the result.
VATEnter the amount and your VAT percentage. Choose exclusive to add VAT, or inclusive to extract it from a total. Do not assume the app selects the legally applicable rate.
Margin & markupEnter the requested cost/selling figures. Margin is measured against selling price; markup is measured against cost.
Loan & debt amortizationEnter the loan amount, rate and term requested. Review estimated repayment results against the lender’s actual terms.
Currency converterChoose the source and destination currency and enter the amount. Refresh reference rates online. This calculation does not change your account currency.

Calculator results are planning aids. Check fees, rounding and assumptions before using a result for a real transaction.

Connect Companion & sync devices

  1. On desktop, sign in to your verified SadiFI account and open Toolkit → Cloud Sync.
  2. Choose Connect a device. A secure pairing QR code will appear on the desktop.
  3. On Companion, sign in to the same account, open More → Connect device, and scan the QR code shown on your desktop.
  4. If the camera cannot scan the QR code, use the manual pairing or recovery code shown on the desktop as a fallback. Keep this code private and safe.
  5. Run a sync and wait for completion. Sync the other device to receive the latest records.
  6. After making offline changes, reconnect and sync before expecting those changes elsewhere.

Completed sync refreshes supported views in the updated apps. Sync is a deliberate action; do not assume edits appear instantly on another device.

Which records are included?

Accounts, expenses, extra income, goals, salary profiles, payslip history, user assets, payslip custom fields, milestone allocations, budget months, category limits, recorded flexible spending and the payment audit log. Companion can sync supporting desktop records without offering an editor for every type.

13 / GUIDE

Deleting records & understanding sync results

Delete an item in its feature screen, confirm the action and sync. Each other device needs to sync before it reflects the deletion. In the updated sync system, a deletion marker is retained to stop an old device from uploading that record again.

A sync total is not the number of visible items. “Unchanged” means the received record needed no local update; processed totals can include deletion markers and supporting records. Deleting all visible items does not necessarily make the processed count zero.

Do not remove cloud deletion markers manually. If a deleted item returns, note the affected feature, app version and sync result, then contact support. Keep all devices on the current deletion-safe build.

Document Vault, reports & quick portals

Desktop Document Vault lets you select a document and use Clone & Encrypt to Vault to store a local encrypted copy. Open documents from Vault when needed and keep a separate backup of the Vault folder and key.

Use Pull Statement (PDF) on the overview for a report, and Export in the payslip workspace for a PDF or Word copy. Check the selected account and period before sharing a report.

Quick Portals open country-related external services. A portal link does not mean SadiFI is connected to that service or authorised to act on your behalf.

15 / GUIDE

Backups, recovery & signing out

  1. On desktop, open Guide → Create Database Backup.
  2. Choose a private location and set a backup password. Keep that password safely.
  3. Back up Vault documents and the Vault key separately; they are not included in the database backup.
  4. When restoring, use Restore / Import Database, select the backup and provide its password if required. Follow the prompts and sign in again.

Sync is not a substitute for a backup: it shares deletions as well as additions. A backup also does not override a cloud deletion marker for an already-deleted record.

Sync before signing out if you want recent changes available elsewhere. Unsynced Companion records stay on that device for the account. Protect your device login; the local financial database is not itself encrypted at database level in the current tester build.

If an email verification link expires, request a new one. If you lose access to encrypted data, use your recovery code on an authorised device; do not share that code with support.

Trials, plans & getting help

The desktop trial is controlled by your SadiFI account. The planned paid access periods are 1, 3, 6 and 12 months; see Plans for the listed rand prices.

Website purchases and automatic payment activation are still being prepared. The planned flow is to sign in with your app account, select a period, review the final currency and price, then pay through secure checkout. Account access should only change after the payment is confirmed by the server.

For help using the apps, email support@sadifi.com. For plan or purchase questions, email sales@sadifi.com. Include the platform, app version, affected feature and steps that led to the problem. Leave passwords, recovery codes and private financial documents out of your message.
